Blue and White Bowls

January 23, 2016 12 Comments

I love my collection of blue and white bowls

I love my collection of blue and white bowls

I’ve looked forward for some time to showing you my pretty collection of blue and white bowls.

Pretty bowls in blue and white

I started this collection years ago, and quite by accident, when I happened upon a couple of striking blue and white bowls at Marshalls that didn’t match, but that I thought looked pretty side-by-side.

Stacked blue and white bowls

Blue and white bowls are pretty, even when stacked

After that, I never looked back, and my first pair of blue and white bowls has grown to a couple of stacks of blue and white bowls! Honestly, I still get such a kick out of opening my kitchen cabinet door and seeing the varying blues and patterns of these bowls stacked up before me.

These bowls have such varied and unique patterns, both on the inside and the outside. As you can see here, some look more English, while some look more Asian. Some are more modern-looking while others are much more traditional-looking.  Some are more simplistic, while others are more elaborate. And yet, all are blue and white. Together, the effect is fascinating, don’t you think?

Same colors, different patterns

Same colors, different patterns

My collection consists of blue and white patterned bowls that were all inexpensive purchases, mostly from Asian groceries, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Tuesday Morning.  I only purchase bowls that are dishwasher safe and microwave safe.

Because, yes, I actually use these bowls, and a lot!  The larger ones are perfect for soup and cereal, and the smaller ones I like for yogurt and ice cream.

I usually rotate the stacks of bowls every few weeks, so that I can enjoy eating off of different patterns. Do you have a collection of varied objects or dishes that you adore? I would love hear about it if you do!

What a brilliant idea! I love the bowls at TJ Maxx, but there is never a full set. I’m totally going to do this!

Well, you like my cornbread recipe and I love your bowls. To tell you the truth, I am partial to blue. I even have a few of the same bowl. If you read my blog regularly, you already know! Thanks for stopping by!

Love these! FYI – if you haven’t seen the Feb 2016 issue of Better Homes and Gardens, there is an article on dessert plates – all in blues, too!! A “must-see” for you 🙂

What a lovely collection. It’s great that you can find ones you love at a variety of stores. I have a weakness for dishes and have to tell myself “no” more times than I’d like too. There’s only so much room in the cabinets! I rarely pass up a piece of Depression Era Dishware, though. I find room for those pieces.

Hi Beverly, yes it’s funny how we always find room for those items that “spark joy”. It makes for an ongoing hunt that’s kind of fun too. Thanks for commenting!
