This Tequila Thyme Spritzer is made is with just four ingredients: thyme-infused sugar syrup, tequila, lemon juice, and seltzer. You certainly can add more or less of any of these ingredients to your taste. I think you’ll find researching your favorite ratios of ingredients more than a little fun!

For a garnish, try getting creative with a sprig of thyme and lemon peel!

Because of the muted color of this Tequila Thyme Spritzer, a colorful garnish adds appeal, both to the nose and the eyes. Here, I knotted and wrapped a sprig of fresh thyme between two ends of a some lemon peel speared on a cocktail pick. The bright yellow of the lemon peel and green of the thyme add great visual pizzazz, while the herbal scent of the thyme garnish enhances the fizzy flavors.

Thyme-infused sugar syrup pairs up nicely with lemon juice for cocktails

The thyme-infused sugar syrup is simply 3 cups of water, 2 cups of sugar and about 15 sprigs of fresh thyme combined and boiled until the sugar is dissolved, with the thyme steeping in the hot syrup for about 10 minutes. Don’t you love the gorgeous golden color from the thyme? The taste and aroma of this herb really comes through, so some folks might prefer to dial back to 3 or 4 sprigs of thyme instead. The ratio of water to sugar for the syrup can vary also. This recipe calls for equal parts water and sugar, while this recipe calls for 2 parts water to 1 part sugar. This Ginger Goldilocks finds that 3 parts water to 2 parts sugar is just right.

This Tequila Thyme Spritzer is so refreshing

I’ve always thought that thyme and lemon generally pair up so nicely, such as in chicken dishes and in dressings. That’s why this thyme-infused sugar syrup pairs up perfectly with freshly squeezed lemon juice in cocktails like this one.
