Save and Arrange Hosta Leaves

Save and arrange hosta leaves

Arrangement in repurposed Chambord bottle

Why save and arrange hosta leaves? Because the first frost is just around the corner, and the leaves on hosta plants will finally shrivel and turn brown when that cooler fall weather arrives.

Save and Arrange Hosta Leaves

Arranged hosta leaves add a tropical vibe

For many of you, it’s not too late to rescue some of the best hosta leaves in your yard or garden, bring them indoors and make striking arrangements with them. Above, you’ll see that I repurposed a martini pitcher, and added some fat hosta leaves, sprigs of vinca, water, and voila! Been thinking of having a martini, by the way? You might like this Rosemary Lime Martini or this Halloween Monster Martini. So, where was I? Oh yes–hosta leaves!

This arrangement, with smaller hosta leaves is simple, yet striking when placed in an upcycled Chambord bottle…just one of the many benefits of occasionally sipping on this exquisite liqueur. Chambord is perfection when drizzled on vanilla ice cream, by the way, and is equally wonderful when mixed in a French Martini or a Chambord Margarita. But I’m getting distracted again, aren’t I?

Cut and arrange rescued hosta leaves in the early fall

Back to salvaging hosta leaves: simply cut some of your best hosta leaves close to the ground, and then arrange them in vases indoors, with or without flowers.

As long as they’re in water, these bright green and golden hosta leaves will stay fresh and not brown for up to a week. Do you have hosta plants in your yard or garden that will turn brown and die back when the first frost arrives? If so, then consider cutting some of their gorgeous leaves before the cold weather hits.  Rescue and bring them indoors to make striking arrangements that everyone will love.
