A few days ago, while shopping at our Kroger grocery, of all places, my daughter and I found colorful bulb flowers, each in their own pretty blue and white planter. My daughter fell in love with the purple hyacinth and asked if she might have one to take back to college and set on her window sill in her dorm. She cleaned up with lots of Christmas gifts a couple of weeks earlier, but these vivid bulb flowers in their adorable ceramic pots were only $7.00, so I caved and bought one for her.
I took these photos of this striking purple hyacinth when it was just beginning to bloom. Hyacinths have a sweet and almost romantic scent that subtly fills a whole room, but not in a cloying way.
Vividly colored potted bulb flowers are a delight during these cold and gray winter months. When the flowers die, you can replant the bulbs outside, and usually they’ll bloom again the following year in the spring.
I love the vivid purple of the hyacinth set off by the blue and white pattern in the pot in which it rests, don’t you?
And of course, this pretty ceramic planter can be reused. The Kroger florist added some Spanish moss to the top of the planter for a more finished look…what a great idea!
Wondering about what to give to someone as a modestly priced gift? Maybe a potted bulb flower in a pretty ceramic planter…I know my daughter loves hers shown in these photos.
If you have an Asian grocery nearby, you can check out its aisles with dishes and ceramics…you just might find a pretty blue and white planter similar to the one pictured here, for a similar price. Bulbs for flowers like hyacinths can be found at Home Depot and Lowe’s.
