This is a Wroot Review of Geranium Eau de Parfum by Thistle & Vine, purchased on sale at Anthropologie a few weeks ago. I’ve been wearing this geranium-scented perfume a lot lately, and the more I wear it, the more I like it.
I purchased this perfume deeply discounted from a sales shelf in the back room of Anthropologie. Since then, this Geranium Eau de Parfum has become one of my favorite scents to wear, both day and night. The label on the bottom of the bottle states that it has notes of geranium petals, lily of the valley, and oud wood. The geranium is so dominant, though, that I would consider this geranium perfume almost a soliflore. If you didn’t know, soliflores are perfume fragrances that replicate the scent of just one flower.
That isn’t to say that this geranium-scented perfume isn’t complex. If you’ve smelled geraniums, you probably know what I mean. There’s a bitter and green edge to a geranium plant, and some of that edge comes out in this perfume. Perhaps there’s just a tiny hint of lily of the valley in there, but this perfume starts out soundly and definitively geranium and stays that way aaaaallllll day.
This geranium perfume review came about in the first place because I was impressed by not only its striking soliflore and yet complex scent, but by how long its lovely scent lasts. I constantly will catch whiffs of this perfume on me twelve hours after I’ve lightly applied two spritzes, one on my wrist and one on my neck. The sillage seems to be medium to heavy. It’s rare to find an inexpensive perfume that lasts so long and that is such a likable scent.
Unfortunately, at this writing, Anthropologie no longer carries Thistle & Vine Eau de Parfums. On the bottom label of the bottle, it shows that Illume, out of Minneapolis, MN, is the company responsible for making the now-discontinued geranium scent reviewed here. With this perfume being so wonderful, I’m tempted to try some of Illume’s other fragrances…
I often check out Frangrantica for perfume reviews. I like Frangrantica, because you can see how various readers cast their votes as to how long-lasting a fragrance wears on them, and how they perceive a perfume’s sillage. The readers can also write and post their reviews on the site. I plugged in “geranium” for women in the search engine of Frangrantica, and found Yardley London’s Geranium. The one vote showed it was very long-lasting, and three votes varied from a moderate sillage to enormous. The readers’ reviews all indicate that this Yardley Geranium Eau de Toilette is a lovely soliflore, with an edge of fresh cut grass and citrus.
Do you have a soliflore (or almost a soliflore) perfume that you love to wear? I’d love to hear about it!
