A wine snob I definitely am not. I rarely pay more than ten dollars for a bottle of wine, and I always shop at liquor stores that offer a ten percent case discount.
Sure, there have been some duds through the years (bottles of wine, movies, men, etc.) but I’ve found that the Banrock Station label, from Australia, consistently turns out very decent Shiraz Cabernet blends. Not only is Banrock’s Shiraz Cab quite drinkable, but it’s almost laughably inexpensive. I’m talking less than seven dollars in my local stores, and I’ve found it on sale for less than six bucks, and that’s before the case discount. Banrock is able to grow and harvest the grapes, make and bottle a very likable wine, fly it more than ten thousand miles to the States, and make a profit by selling it for less than seven dollars. That’s amazing to me.
The Banrock Station Shiraz Cabernet 2012 shown here has rich berry and plum flavors with traces of soft vanillin, oak, and cinnamon. I like to serve this red blend alongside nachos, burger, pizza, or roasted meats. Very good, and perfectly priced. My rating of the Banrock Station Shiraz Cabernet 2012: 4 and 1/2 out of 5 stars.
