This Axiology Lipstick review came about when my best friend from college and I recently met up for a long getaway weekend in Asheville, NC, after not having seen each other for over fifteen years. We spent time wandering at craft fairs, eating amazing meals, shopping in boho boutiques, and generally catching each other up about our lives and families. While putting on our makeup one morning, my friend showed me her Axiology Natural Lipsticks made by her friend Ericka in Bend, OR, saying how much she loved the colors and texture of this luxury lipstick. The lip colors that Ericka had selected for my friend were perfect for her coloring, and I was impressed by the cool design of the gold cases for these lipsticks. Anyway, my friend, knowing that I write some beauty product reviews on this blog, asked Ericka to send me some free samples. So, that’s my long-winded disclaimer! Notwithstanding, all opinions are my own, and I was not paid or compensated in any way to write this Axiology lipstick review.
A few weeks after my Asheville trip, I found a package in my mailbox shipped from Bend, Oregon, with the Axiology Natural Lipstick goodies shown here. First, you need to know that these truly are luxury lipsticks, and sell on Axiology’s website for $28.00 each. Amazon also sells Axiology lipsticks, and you might come out better in shipping costs buying from Amazon, since you only get free shipping from Axiology’s website if you buy at least three lipsticks. I also noticed that Free People carries some Axiology lipsticks.
What do I love about Axiology’s lipsticks? First, the colors, which are beyond gorgeous, with a shimmer, natural warmth, and complexity in different lights unlike any lipsticks that I’ve ever worn.
The color Instinct is a wonderful nude/natural color that looks great on my lips by itself, but also blends wonderfully with a brighter color, such as Vibration.
Intrigued by the purple-bluish color Enlighten, I found that just bit of this dabbed on with a lip brush over the Vibration, for instance, highlighted more of the underlying blueish pinks and downplayed the underlying oranges.
Secondly, I adore how silky smooth and hydrating the Axiology lipstick feels on my lips, and yes, it stays on my lips for hours! I’ve been wearing these Axiology lipsticks for about two weeks now, and I’ve found that they never flake or dry out my lips.
Finally, I love the cases for these Axiology Natural Lipsticks. Their design is unique, with a spring action, so that you push the bottom of the case (shown above) and the lipstick pops out, similar to the action of a ball point pen when you click it. A lot of thought obviously went into the ergonomics and design of these lipstick cases, which are well machined and a joy to hold and use.
In my book, those are the biggest positives of Axiology Natural Lipsticks. My one and only complaint is the odor of the coconut oil in these lipsticks, which I find too strong and off-putting. I think scent is a big deal for lipsticks since our lips are right underneath our nostrils. I should point out, though, that I have a general aversion to coconut odor in all beauty products, such as lotions, shampoos, and soaps. The strong scent of coconut oil in these Axiology lipsticks might actually be appealing to some of you, so my complaints on this point might be another gal’s applause.
Axiology obviously is making itself stand out in the beauty product world by touting the fact that its lipsticks are organic, all-natural, and vegan. Axiology says on its website that even the lipstick cartons are constructed out of handmade paper.
To be honest, the natural and organic methodology of Axiology just isn’t that big of a deal to me. I realize though, that to some people, such as my girlfriend from college, the all-natural, organic, vegan, sustainable ingredients and origins of the Axiology lipsticks are key and critical.
I’m awarding a rating of 3 and 1/2 stars out of 5 to Axiology Natural Lipsticks. I totally dig the gorgeous colors offered by Axiology, I adore the silky smooth texture of these luxury lipsticks, and the unique and cool design of the spring action lipstick case deserves some sort of award. But I found the strong and distinct smell of the coconut oil in Axiology’s lipsticks bothersome and off-putting. If you like the scent of coconut oil or don’t mind it, then you’ll likely rank Axiology’s lipsticks much higher than I have. My other reservation is the current price of $28.00–to me, that’s a lot to pay for a tube of lipstick. However, if wearing all-organic and natural beauty products is critically important to you, then you’re less likely to be put off by Axiology’s luxury price tag.
